A day dedicated to inclusion and remembrance

Starting at 10 a.m., the day began with an official ceremony at the upper station of the cable car, attended by numerous partners: the Club de Vol Libre du Salève (CVLS), the Local Cross-Border Cooperation Group (GLCT), the municipality of Monnetier-Mornex, the Haute-Savoie Departmental Council, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Free Flight League, and the Geneva Free Flight Club.

This inauguration was also marked by a touching tribute to Alexandre Gamet, former president of CVLS, who tragically passed away in a snowboarding accident in December 2024. Deeply committed to making free flight accessible to all, this take-off area will now bear his name.

A wonderful show of support to fly extraordinary passengers

Throughout the day, a fantastic team of adaptive paragliding pilots, coming from various regions, made it possible for around ten people with disabilities to take to the skies in ideal conditions.
J’IRAI VOUS FAIRE VOLER was proud to actively contribute to this initiative, alongside other associations and supporting pilots including the experienced team from Annecy Handi Bi and other dedicated paragliding volunteers.

The wheelchair flights offered each passenger a moment of freedom and emotion above the Geneva basin.

Among the pilots involved alongside J’IRAI VOUS FAIRE VOLER during this day, Bertrand, an active member of our team, was also present. Through his flights, he helped to embody the spirit of sharing and openness that drives our association.

Making the sky accessible to all: our mission continues

The association J’IRAI VOUS FAIRE VOLER works year-round to offer free tandem wheelchair flights to people with disabilities.
These flights are made possible solely thanks to your donations. Today, we continue to pursue an essential goal: to fund the purchase of our second wheelchair, allowing us to conduct two simultaneous flights during our adaptive flying days.

Our pilot Jonathan has recently obtained his UCC Hand’Icare qualification for wheelchair flying, and several other tandem pilots from our association will soon join the same training.

For every donation of 80 euros or more, we offer a gift voucher for a tandem flight (reserved for able-bodied individuals, as flights for people with disabilities are always free).

A festive and friendly end to the day

The day continued with a cheerful interclub late afternoon: costume flights, a friendly precision landing challenge over water, followed by a warm and convivial evening at the Le Bord’aile restaurant in Troinex.

This evening was also an opportunity to pay a new tribute to Alexandre Gamet, in a warm atmosphere fueled by friendship, the passion for free flight, and the desire to continue honoring his commitment to an open sky for all.

A Dream Taking Flight

The association was founded in mid-January 2024 with a clear mission: to make the skies accessible to everyone. This handi-flight chair is so much more than just an object; it’s the heart of our project. It represents our dream of giving people with disabilities the chance to experience the joy of free flight. In 2025, thanks to this equipment, we’ll be able to take our first passengers up and make their dreams come true.

Looking Back on a Year of Mobilization

2024 was an incredible year of collective effort. Thanks to your donations, we managed to acquire:

• A tandem paraglider wing.
• An adult harness.
• A child harness.
• Two helmets (for passenger and pilot).

These first pieces of equipment helped lay the foundation for our project. But we knew that the handi-flight chair was the key to making our vision a reality.

A Giant Leap Forward

This specialized chair opens up amazing new possibilities for our association. However, we still need a few more pieces of equipment to be fully operational:

• A pair of spreader bars (to connect the chair to the wing and pilot).
• A pilot harness.
• A reserve parachute capable of supporting the full weight of the setup.

Right now, we’re working with borrowed equipment: a pilot harness and a reserve parachute with a limited maximum takeoff weight (MTOW). This limits passenger weight to 80 kg. But thanks to your donations, we’ve already tackled the biggest part of our goal!

Sharing Our Journey With You

We’re also planning to invest in a GoPro to capture and share every moment of our flights with you. In the meantime, we’ve documented the unboxing and assembly of the chair through photos and a presentation video. We hope these images convey all the emotion and joy of this moment.

Thanks to your amazing generosity and the incredible support from the ATMB Foundation, we’ve made huge strides in making the skies accessible to everyone.

The handiflight chair: a dream taking off

In 2024, the ATMB Foundation gave us a financial boost of €5,000 as part of their program to support local associations. This donation was a game-changer, helping us purchase our handiflight chair – a special piece of equipment that lets people with disabilities experience the joys of paragliding. The chair, decked out in our association’s colors, was recently painted and will be assembled in early January 2025, once our partner Back Bone reopens.

This chair is loaded with comfort features, like a neoprene cocoon to keep you warm, and it’s set to arrive mid-January. But it’s so much more than just a piece of equipment – it’s a promise of adventure and freedom for many.

Exciting events planned for 2025

With this chair, we’re gearing up to organize several handiflight events in 2025. Here’s what we’ve got in store:

• Flying days for children in hospitals in Thonon and Annemasse, in partnership with the association Nos Petites Étoiles.
• An inclusive event for both able-bodied and disabled participants, with the paragliding club of Les Carroz d’Arâches.
• Collaborations with Annecy Handi Bi to share flying days and learn from their experience.
• Other activities with care centers or individuals who’ve shown interest in paragliding flights.

These projects are super exciting, and we’re confident they’ll leave a lasting impact on hearts and minds.

A hopeful financial report

In 2024, we raised €11,645 in donations through our online fundraiser and initiatives like offering tandem flights for donations over €80. Here’s how those funds helped us:

• Bought a brand-new tandem wing.
• Got two passenger harnesses (one for adults, one for kids).
• Financed the handiflight chair.

We still need to raise funds to complete the set with a pilot harness and a reserve parachute – both essential for safe flights. Part of the donations also went towards communication expenses, hosting our website, insurance, and other costs tied to organizing our activities. We’re also planning to invest in a new GoPro camera to capture the unforgettable moments from our events.

An inspiring day with the ATMB Foundation

On November 5, we took part in the association day organized by the ATMB Foundation to celebrate their first anniversary. Here’s what stood out:

• Inspiring exchanges with about 20 other local associations, like Annecy Handi Bi and Yambi, which helps refugees integrate through mountain sports.
• A workshop on social media management to better promote our work.
• Meaningful speeches, including one from our president, Tony:

In six weeks, we will receive this equipment personalized in the colors of our association, in green RAL 6024, a strong reminder of our identity.

A Support That Marks a Turning Point

Thanks to this exceptional support from ATMB, our association is taking a crucial step by becoming the owner of this coveted flying chair. The CH 07 chair from Backbone, designed to meet the specific needs of handiflying, will provide us with total independence in organizing our flights. Until now, we had to borrow equipment from other organizations; with our own chair, we can now plan our flight sessions with greater flexibility.

ATMB: 25 Years of Commitment to Solidarity Mobility

Since 1995, ATMB has been supporting local associations with the aim of including and bringing together the residents of its territory. Their first associative commitment was alongside Loisirs Assis Évasion, an association that enables people with reduced mobility to enjoy mountain activities. In 2011, this commitment took on a new dimension with support for the Association of the Disabled. Today, the ATMB Foundation for Solidarity Mobility continues this legacy by funding projects that facilitate access to mobility, employment, culture, and sports for all.

We are honored that our handiflying project resonates with the values of solidarity and inclusion upheld by the ATMB Foundation.

A Milestone for J’IRAI VOUS FAIRE VOLER

This chair is equipped with all the necessary options to ensure the comfort of our passengers. We have opted for a complete configuration, including thermal neoprene protections that keep the torso and legs of the passenger warm. Additionally, it features integrated brakes, allowing us to stabilize the chair during passenger installation and pre-flight checks. Optional footrests for the pilot have also been included, ensuring optimal comfort during the long flights to come. This chair represents much more to us than just equipment: it symbolizes our commitment and autonomy.

Upcoming Goals

With this chair, we have achieved one of our most ambitious goals. To complete our equipment, we hope to soon acquire a new pilot seat and a larger parachute to safely accommodate passengers in the chair weighing up to 100 kg. Currently, our president is lending us this crucial equipment, but this renewal will allow us to continue our mission with more flexibility. As it stands, our parachute limits the weight of passengers in chairs to 80 kg and that of passengers without chairs to 100 kg. However, with the new equipment to come, we will soon be less constrained.

Partially achieved goal: The acquisition of a new tandem wing.

Out of the €12,932 needed to acquire the handi-vol seat, a tandem paraglider wing, seats for both the passenger and pilot, as well as a rescue parachute suited to the weight of the crew with the seat, we have already collected €5,600. This incredible support has allowed us to purchase a brand-new tandem wing, the Duet Pro from DaVinci. We were fortunate to have it adorned with beautiful custom embroidery done during the manufacturing process, before the suspension lines were attached. This meticulous work was graciously offered by DaVinci to support us. The tandem features the inscription “J’IRAI VOUS FAIRE VOLER” in the center, along with two small additional embroideries of www.aile4.com on the wingtips, representing the new business of our president, Tony. Aile 4 shares the same values as our association: making the sky accessible to all by making paragliding equipment more financially accessible.

The DaVinci brand we chose is renowned for its high-tech equipment, offering optimal safety at affordable prices. The Duet Pro, our new tandem, stands out for its quality, comfort, and light, maneuverable controls, making it a pure pleasure to fly.

In addition to the tandem wing, we have also acquired a passenger seat, the Bipax 2 from the Swiss brand Advance, thanks to another one of our partners, Airsports Chamonix, who also provided us with a preferential rate.

The next objective: A chair for totally free handi-vol

We currently have about €1,500 remaining in our fund. If donations continue to come in regularly, we hope to acquire the handi-vol seat within the next few months or by next year. In the meantime, we thank our generous donors by offering them gift vouchers for paragliding flights, encouraging them to help us reach our final goal: collecting the €5,300 necessary for the seat, €1,000 for the pilot’s seat, and €1,200 for the rescue parachute. Currently, we are using a pilot’s seat and a rescue parachute generously loaned to the association. We would also like to obtain a seat suitable for children. Our partner DaVinci has lent us a child seat for free until mid-September, allowing us to fly several children this summer.

We are very pleased to present our new tandem, as the old one, after more than 300 flights for the J’IRAI VOUS FAIRE VOLER project, had reached the end of its life with less than 50 hours of remaining use according to its last inspection. This wing, which belonged to our president, played a key role, but it was imperative to replace it to ensure maximum safety.

Bertrand: A new passionate pilot

We also take this opportunity to introduce Bertrand, the latest pilot to join the J’IRAI VOUS FAIRE VOLER team. Passionate about paragliding for over three decades, Bertrand obtained his tandem qualification in 2019. This marked the beginning of a new adventure for him, allowing him to rediscover the joys of hike-and-fly with his wife, other passengers, and his grandchildren. Today, he shares his passion with as many people as possible, introducing them to the joys of flight while conveying his love for nature.

Captivated by Tony’s vision for the handi-vol project, Bertrand decided to support our association with enthusiasm. He is now our pilot for the Haute-Savoie region, and we are very proud to have him on our team. His enthusiasm, big heart, and passion make him a valuable asset to J’IRAI VOUS FAIRE VOLER.

Recap of Our First Event at Salève

On Saturday, August 31, 2024, we celebrated this first success by organizing a small event at Salève, the beautiful French mountain overlooking Geneva, offering an incredible view of Switzerland. We invited our Instagram followers to join us for a moment of exchange, meeting, and presentation of our new equipment and our new pilot, Bertrand. Despite the last-minute organization, we were fortunate to share this afternoon with some of our followers over a friendly potluck buffet.

This event, although modest, marked a significant moment for the association. Future events will be larger and organized further in advance, but it was a pleasure to celebrate this first success together.

Dear friends and paragliding enthusiasts,

We are pleased to share with you some hopeful and heartwarming news. Following the unfortunate theft of our equipment that occurred from Friday to Saturday night, we were overwhelmed by an unprecedented wave of support. Thanks to your more than 1,000 shares on social media, we were able to recover all of the stolen equipment.

On Monday evening, around 7:30 PM, as my partner and I were returning to her home, we noticed a national police vehicle parking a few meters away. The officers headed towards a tree located about 50 meters from the site of the break-in, where the vehicle had been broken into. To our great surprise and relief, all of the association’s stolen equipment was placed against that tree.

Thanks to the police report filed earlier, we had the receipts for the equipment with us, which facilitated the process with law enforcement. Among the recovered items were the helmet branded with the association’s name, the passenger tandem harness Advance Bipax, as well as the Duo Reversible harness and the Lullaby children’s harness, generously loaned to us by Davinci Paragliders.

A particularly memorable moment was when one of the officers, showing keen interest in paragliding, shared his desire to learn this sport in the future. We offered to give him a flight in Saint-Hilaire-du-Touvet, hoping to pass on our passion.

We are convinced that the extent of your shares played a crucial role in this outcome. Faced with the impossibility of selling the equipment, the thief likely chose to abandon it, realizing that he could not escape the vigilance of our community. We also wish to thank that person for deciding to return our equipment. This gesture proves that there was still some kindness behind this regrettable action.

We would like to express our immense gratitude for your support. This wave of solidarity shows that together, we can overcome challenges and continue to make the sky accessible to everyone. Thanks to you, our equipment is back, and we are more motivated than ever to pursue our mission.

• Advance Bipax harness: Equipped with an NFC sensor indicating our Instagram on its shoulder.
• Lullaby DaVinci children’s harness: Serial number HLB-S49065.
• DaVinci reversible Duo harness: Serial number DOT-M48106.
• Gradient helmet: Branded with the name of our association.
• Woody Valley paragliding carrying bag.

Unfortunately, the thieves broke the window of our vehicle to access this equipment.

J’IRAI VOUS FAIRE VOLER: An Association Full of Kindness to Forget Disability for the Duration of a Flight

Not far from the paragliding landing area in Orcier, on the Route des Grands Champs, Tony Morel, president of the association J’IRAI VOUS FAIRE VOLER, is present with his partner and Marie Lecerf, the association’s treasurer.

J’IRAI VOUS FAIRE VOLER offers paragliding flights for people with disabilities. Tony shares the story of the association.

“I made my first flight in June 2019. It was a true revelation: the happiness, the sensation of flying, the magic of unpacking a backpack and being in the air in just a few minutes. The desire to share this passion came quickly. That’s why I am currently preparing for my instructor certification in Saint-Hilaire-du-Touvet, dividing my time between Isère and Savoie,” says Tony.

“As I progressed, I saw associations doing Handi Vol, and I wanted to do the same,” he recalls.

“Two years after my first flight, I had flown so much that I earned my tandem qualification. Then, two years later, I obtained the UCC Hand’icare qualification necessary to do Handi Vol and launch the adventure of J’IRAI VOUS FAIRE VOLER,” he explains.

“This desire for Handi Vol was born because my father has ataxia, a neurodegenerative disease that causes him to lose his balance and, gradually, his mobility. My father, who is passionate about aviation, has always dreamed of flying, and I dreamed of making him fly,” Tony remembers.

“To obtain the precious UCC Hand’icare qualification for flying with an adapted chair, I needed approximately 200 flights with a standard tandem. At the beginning of the J’IRAI VOUS FAIRE VOLER concept, I created an Instagram account and every day I set out to offer flights to people who picked me up. I started posting information about the areas where I would be hitchhiking. People began to follow the project. That’s how I flew 300 people before presenting myself for the Handi Vol qualification,” he explains.

“We really want to fly people with disabilities for free, but there is equipment to fund,” he says.

“To make this possible, I gathered a team of friends and volunteers to help us. To fund the equipment, we came up with the idea of offering classic tandem flights to our generous donors starting at €80. We are also looking for local partners, like businesses, to whom we offer to print their logo on the tandem wing in exchange for a larger donation. This would give them visibility on our social media, our website, and in the sky,” he continues.

The association’s goal for the coming months is to successfully fund a flying chair to start organizing Handi Vol events. They hope to begin in the spring.

“We want to organize these events in Savoie, Haute-Savoie, and Isère to enjoy the beauty of these locations. By changing locations after each 100% free event, we do not compete with other structures offering paid Handi Vol,” explains Tony.

The idea is to grow the association gradually by participating in existing events and organizing their own in the future.

“In any case, people can also visit our website www.jiraivousfairevoler.fr to find all our news and upcoming events. They will also be able to follow the progress of our project and help us with voluntary donations,” he reminds us.

“I remember a young person with a disability who didn’t speak at all. After a paragliding flight, he began to talk and overcame his barriers. We are truly lucky to see the benefits this brings. It’s for these moments that we want to be present and useful for their well-being,” Tony concludes.

Back Bone is a brand that designs and manufactures a wide range of products primarily for paramotoring and adapted flying.

The paramotor is an aircraft in the category of aerodynes. It belongs to class 1 of the ULM (Ultra-Light Motorized) category, which includes six classes. It consists of a paraglider wing and a lightweight engine integrated into a protective frame that is worn on the pilot’s back or in the form of a cart. A propeller provides the necessary thrust.

ULM stands for Ultra-Light Motorized.

Since 1993, Thierry Simonet, a parachutist and paraglider since 1984, has been working on the concept of a simple, lightweight, high-performance paramotor that can be transported in the trunk of a car or in the hold of an airplane.

Back Bone was born. This company has become an expert in manufacturing paramotor carts with an unmatched weight-to-strength ratio by using aluminum (7020) and aerospace-grade steel (4130), known for its lightweight properties.

This is how its founder collaborated with the Handicare section of the FFVL (French Federation of Free Flight) to develop a flight chair for people with reduced mobility.

For the past 17 years, Thierry Simonet has been attentive to users, continuously adding improvements and additional features to the flight chairs.

The Handivol flight chair is made of aerospace-grade steel (4130) to provide strength and lightweight properties.

How much does a flight chair cost?

The price of a flight chair is €4,190.00 including tax for the version without brakes and €4,820.00 including tax for the version with brakes.

The brakes allow for steering, and the locking system enables a parking brake.

Back Bone offers two additional options to enhance the comfort of both the passenger and the pilot.

Neoprene protection for better leg support and thermal insulation: €392.

Rear footrest for the tandem pilot: €122.

How much does the rest of the tandem equipment cost?

First, the wing needs to be replaced approximately every 300-500 hours.

The lifespan of a wing can vary significantly, primarily depending on the number of takeoffs and the type of surface. Takeoffs on grass or carpet are much less abrasive than takeoffs on sand, snow, or rocky areas. Near the sea, the lifespan of a wing is reduced by half.

Then there are the harnesses, straps, and carabiners, which need to be replaced every 5 years or after 500 hours of use.

The pilot’s harness contains the reserve parachute, which is the only component that has a lifespan of 10 years.

In total, approximately €13,000 is needed for a complete flight chair. Additional accessories can also be added to this amount, such as helmets, transport bags, cameras for memories, etc.

Today, around 80% of recognized disabilities are considered invisible, according to APF France handicap. Still often misunderstood or even unacknowledged by others or society, this condition can significantly impact a person’s life.

A few days ago, the young Yaroslav Aubry (17 years old) received the 2023 Youth Award from the French Red Cross.

This recognition is for all young people under the age of 30, whether they are volunteers (volunteers, civic service, European solidarity corps, employees) or supported by Red Cross institutions (training programs, child protection, disability, etc.).

This distinction was awarded to Yaroslav Aubry, who joined the Red Cross (Chablais local unit) in 2018 after participating in a first aid course at the age of 11. He later earned his PSC1 certificate (Prevention and Civic Rescue level 1). He is now a PSC2 rescuer, specializing in logistics and radio communications. In the future, he plans to take on more responsibility, focusing on rescue operations and training young volunteers.

An official Red Cross trophy. In France, only 200 young people have received this distinction. A true source of pride for the French Red Cross of Haute-Savoie and the Chablais local unit.

His exemplary journey is a testament to his passion and dedication to serving others.
